Technical questions about using the HMI STMM Matrix Tool
General questions about the STMMconnect Project What is the motivation behind this project? As a medical student at Harvard, I have been intrigued by the diversity of health interventions through which developed nations attempt to alleviate the tremendous health disparities of the world. In addition, I have always had an interest in quality improvement as it relates to health care distribution, and the varied and currently unregulated sector of STMMs seems a good candidate for a standardized, comprehensive tool for evaluation and quality assessment. General questions about the HMI STMM Matrix Tool for self-evaluation by missions Will this project consist of "evaluating" our mission? No. At the present time we are creating a tool for evaluation of missions, and beta testing that tool with individual missions. We envision that mission directors will eventually use this tool to evaluate their programs internally, and as a guide in terms of the quality improvement process as it relates to STMMs. What role will mission directors play in the formation of this tool? We are hoping to draw on the vast experiences of mission directors from multiple different missions in order to shape and polish this tool such that it will be both user- friendly and broadly applicable. It is also our goal to integrate feedback from a wide range of sources, and create a focus group/panel of interested individuals for further discussion. What will be required of this mission in order to participate in this project? In short, all that is required is a willingness to share information. In terms of resources, the project is fully funded and will not require gifts or donations from participating missions. However, details such as housing and food arrangements are typically discussed on an individual basis. What benefits does a mission receive for participating in this project? Our goal is to provide the medical missions who participate in this project with an accurate, efficient, and user-friendly tool for self-evaluation. In addition, in the short term we hope to provide a new perspective on issues such as quality and health impact assessment, and stimulate scholarly discussion of common problems and solutions within the sector of STMMs. We also hope that this tool will serve as vehicle for knowledge and idea sharing within the community of like-minded individuals who participate in STMMs. Will specific data gathered during this time be made public or published? No. All data gathered during this phase of the project will remain confidential and if reported or used in a public manner will remain anonymous unless specific, written consent is granted. Technical questions about using the HMI STMM Matrix Tool How do I enter data for new mission? I directed or participated in a mission, but it's not listed on the main page. I made a mistake while entering data. Can I revise my form? Yes. Return to the main page, and click on the mission for which you wish to revise data. Why don't I have access to the aggregate data from all missions? Who should I contact about technical difficulty with the website? |
